Camping Tips for Beginners

Camping is becoming increasingly popular, with people from all over the world wanting to get back to nature. There are so many amazing places to camp all over the UK, you’d be silly not to get in on the act. Here are some great camping tips for beginners to get you started:

Camping on a Campsite

There are many campsites across the UK you can camp at, so this is the most popular kind of camping you’ll find. Do some research to find a suitable camping spot for you to pitch your tent. Make sure you adhere to the site’s rules, as they’ll all be different. Some places don’t even require a tent. This is because you can stay in their caravans/mobile homes, like for example.

Camping at a Festival

Camping at a festival is probably a bit different to all other forms of camping out there. You’ll usually have to trek from the carpark to the area where you’ll camp with all of your camping gear. However, bear in mind you may be limited to the amount of stuff you’re allowed to set up.

Camping in the Wild

Camping in the wild involves you setting up all of your gear in a campsite that hasn’t been officially labelled a campsite. Usually, you’ll need to ask for the permission of the person who owns the land before you can camp there, or you could get in trouble. Make sure you stay as safe as possible with a small survival kit including tools like a torch, portable phone charger, and army knife.

If you want a little luxury in your camping holidays, then you could choose to go glamping. This usually involves staying in a large tent that has already been set up for you, with real beds and other luxuries. You’ll find this option at festivals. You can also go glamping off your own back but you’ll need to purchase your own luxury supplies.

How to Decide What Size Tent to Get

There are a few things you’ll need to think of when choosing the perfect tent. A tent may say that it’s ‘4 man’, but that’s usually without any luggage or supplies. Consider how many people you’ll be camping with, how much stuff you’re taking, and whether the site you’re staying at has any size limits.

Before You Go Camping

Before you set out camping, you’ll need to check a few things first. Check your gear to make sure there are no faults first. You can then practice pitching your tent to address any issues without being under pressure. Make a list of important things you need, and double check the rules of the site as mentioned before.

You’ll also need to check the rules on cooking outdoors, as some camp sites may not like this. Whether it rains or the sun comes out, make sure you enjoy yourself above all else. Get into the camping spirit and you’ll have a wonderful time!
