The thrill seeker’s guide to Vegas
Known for its bright lights, casinos, and heart-stopping shows, there is no doubt that Las Vegas is the home of fun. Las Vegas is also ideally located for a number of exhilarating activities, enticing even the most adventurous of thrill seekers.
With an abundance of fabulous hotels in Las Vegas, adrenaline junkies of all ages have come to make Las Vegas their base for a holiday filled with nail-biting thrills and spills; with so much on offer, families may find they have to return year after year to fit everything in.
Take to the air
Pulses will race above the Strip, for those who dare to fly. Las Vegas offers some of the very best flying experiences imaginable, from helicopter tours above the Hoover Dam and Grand Canyon, to parachute jumps, hot air balloon rides, and sky dives. For those who are new to adrenaline sports, indoor skydiving provides the ultimate in excitement without the scare of the free fall, while a Las Vegas zip-line tour will shoot participants down a wire above Boulder City at 50 miles an hour.
Take control of an aeroplane, learn daring air combat moves, or simply take in some breathtaking scenery; with so much to see, thrill seekers may find they spend more time in the air than on land.
The roar of engines
For petrol-heads, Las Vegas has some of the very best motoring experiences on Earth, from its famous Motor Speedway to dirt bikes, off-roading adventures, and city tours on the backs of nippy scooters. The Mojave Desert, Valley of Fire, the Hidden Valley, and Redo Rock Canyon are the ideal terrain for taking a spin, and the Hoover Dam is particularly popular for driving exotic cars rather quickly!
Dig It, based in Sin City, offers visitors a rather different experience altogether; how about getting behind the wheel of a digger or bulldozer and zipping it around a dedicated construction site? Only in Las Vegas! Elsewhere, more exotic cars are available to admire and test; Ferraris, Lamborghinis, McLarens, and Jaguars offer the thrill of the race…for those daring enough to get behind the wheel.
Experience the thrill seeker’s paradise
Located in the desert landscape of Nevada, Las Vegas is perfectly placed for a number of high-octane adventures, including canoeing on Lake Mead, or kayaking and rafting in the dramatic Black Canyon. Organised canyon tours around the Black Canyon, Valley of Fire, or even the Grand Canyon itself are also particularly popular, allowing visitors to explore a rocky and unforgiving landscape.
Providing the ultimate in dune exploration, horseback rides through the Mojave Desert and numerous Wild West adventures allow tourists to explore being a cowboy for the day; perhaps the most rugged of all pastimes. Shooting experiences are also big business, and give thrill seekers the opportunity to handle weapons they may only have seen before in action blockbuster movies.
The ride of your life
For those who prefer their thrills with a little more g-force, Las Vegas is home to some of the world’s most amazing and heart-stopping roller coasters and theme park rides, many of which form parts of the hotels and casinos along the strip; never before has thrill seeking been so accessible. The roller coaster at New York New York, for example offers towering drops and exciting loops, while Zero-G, based at the Four Seasons, offers weightless flights above the Nevada Desert. Big Shot, Insanity and X Scream, based at the Stratosphere Hotel, offer fantastic views of Las Vegas, as well as heart-stopping loops and drops. By far the most audacious attraction, though, is the tower’s ultimate dare; free falling from the 108th floor in Sky Jump.
For family fun, the Adventure dome at Circus Circus has a lot to offer even the youngest of adrenaline junkies, while Wet ‘n Wild waterpark, and Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay provide tiny thrill chasers with enough excitement to last a lifetime.
