The Beautiful Seas of Israel
Israel is a country with so much history and so much going on that it is often forgotten that it is a country full of seas – beautiful seas. In fact, the diversity of its seas is probably unparalleled by any other country in the world; definitely not a country the size of Israel.
Following is a list of Israel’s beautiful seas and a brief description of their attributes:
Mediterranean Sea– this is the sea with the greatest geographic coverage in Israel. It runs the vast majority of the length of Israel’s western border and it is simply breathtaking. Clean, blue waters and vast expanses of powdery, white sand are the perfect accompaniment to the stunning summer sunsets.
This is the location to which much of the country flocks in summer, yet it is also rather busy during the temperate Israeli winters. Life in Tel Aviv revolves around the Mediterranean and apartments in Tel Aviv in close proximity to the sea are very much in demand by those with the means to pay the exorbitant prices they command.
Dead Sea- one of the wonders of the world, the Dead Sea is located at the earth’s lowest elevation on land. It is called the Dead Sea because no living thing can survive in the salt-enriched waters. You cannot swim in the Dead Sea, you can only float in it.
The health benefits associated with the mineral rich waters and mud derived from this sea have been known for millennia and to this day visitors come from all over the world to partake in its healing properties. The Dead Sea is located on Israel’s eastern border with Jordan.
Red Sea– located at Israel’s southern border with Jordan and Egypt, the cold, refreshing waters of this sea are a haven for snorkelers, windsurfing enthusiasts, and kite boarders. The tourist city of Eilat is popular for locals and tourists alike due its Value Add Tax-free shopping status and its year-round warm weather.
Sea of Galilee– this is the place where a certain deity walked on water and consequently is a modern day pilgrimage site for millions of followers of the Christian faith who come to be baptized in the same waters as their Lord. Located in the north of the country, this sea differs from all the other seas in Israel in that it is a fresh water sea.
