Splurge or save when choosing a hotel?
We all know where you stay on holiday can make or break your entire trip.? But given most of us don’t have finite resources; it simply isn’t viable to splurge on accommodation every time we take a vacation.? So, should you dig deep for a hotel or go frugal on your next holiday?? Here are a few tips to help you decide.
Does location matter?
If you want to stay somewhere central where you can easily access tourist sights and attractions, then you need to be prepared to pay more.? Many people opt to stick to centrally located areas so they can spend more time sightseeing and less time on transport.? Of course, the importance of location differs from person to person, but do bear in mind that if it takes you 45 minutes to get to tourist spots, then you will be spending an hour and a half each day travelling to and from.? Before deciding to stay further out, check what the public transport at your destination will be like. And factor in any travelling costs.
Is it just a place for a kip?
Do you plan to spend a lot of time in your hotel room while you are on holiday?? Or are you just looking for a place to rest your weary body at the end of a day spent sightseeing?? The more time you intend to spend inside the hotel, the more important its amenities and facilities become.? So, splurge if you want a nice room with all the trimmings, access to an onsite gym and/or pool, and onsite restaurants.? If none of this matters, then by all means spend a little less.
How safe is your holiday destination?? Can tourists generally explore freely without any security concerns?? Is there political tension or civil unrest that could threaten its stability?? You can’t put a price on wellbeing, so make sure you spend as much as you need to on accommodation if you are going to a place that can sometimes experience safety issues.
Who are you travelling with?
If the answer is no one, then it goes without saying that you will need to splurge on a hotel that will make you feel comfortable travelling alone.
If you are travelling with young children, it is also advisable not to save on hotel costs.? Children need their comforts, and they also need somewhere quiet and calm to sleep.? If they don’t sleep, then nor will you.
For those going on a romantic getaway, a luxurious hotel will give you privacy and a more romantic environment in which to spend time together.
Going somewhere special?
Finally, it can sometimes be worth paying a little extra just to have a room with a better view.? For example, a room with a mountain or river view, or views of a city’s skyline, can definitely make your holiday that much more memorable.
